Two asylum seekers from Afghanistan were found guilty by the court of bodily harm with fatal consequences in connection to the death of a 22-year-old German citizen in Koethen on 08 September 2018, and sentenced to 17 and 20 months in prison. The death of a 22-year-old man after an alleged violent confrontation with two Afghan refugees on the night of 08 September to 09 September 2018 sparked right-wing protests and riots in the eastern German city of Koethen. Police stated, the German man, seriously ill with heart disease, succumbed to acute heart failure, which was not directly related to the injuries suffered during an alleged fight with the two Afghans.
