With the Sri Lankan government deciding on vaccinating children between the ages of 12 to 19 years, the initial program to vaccinate those with disabilities and or chronic illnesses or co-morbidities, began on 24 September at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo and at the Government Teaching Hospitals at Kurunegala and Anuradhapura. Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines are administered to such children under supervision and assessment of consultant paediatrician and the parents or guardians are required to produce all medical records of children and also sign a letter of consent. From among the almost 22 million population, Sri Lanka has successfully vaccinated around 96 percent of its over 20 year’s population with the first dose of any COVID-19 vaccine and 77 percent of the same age group with the second doses.
