epa07910974 Photograph of oil stains that pollute the Lagoa do Pau beach, in Coruripe, Alagoas state, Brazil, 10 October 2019. Since the beginning of September, tons of oil has reached the tourist beaches of the nine states that make up the northeastern region of Brazil, but the origin of them is still not officially known. According to the Minister of the Environment, Ricardo Salles, the oil stains that have contaminated at least 138 areas of the northeast coast of Brazil come from a 'foreign ship' most likely 'loaded' with Venezuelan crude. However, the state-owned Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) rejected this statement today, and considered it 'unfounded accusations' of Brazil. EPA/Carlos Ezequiel Vannoni
