(250508) -- WIELICZKA, May 8, 2025 (Xinhua) -- This photo taken on May 7, 2025 shows an interior view of the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Wieliczka, Poland. The deposit of rock salt in Wieliczka has been mined since the 13th century. This major industrial undertaking is the oldest of its type in Europe. The Wieliczka Salt Mine illustrates the historic stages of the development of mining techniques in Europe from the 13th to the 20th centuries: the mine has hundreds of kilometers of galleries with works of art, underground chapels and statues sculpted in the salt, making a fascinating pilgrimage into the past. The Wieliczka Salt Mine was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978. (Xinhua/Zhang Fan)
