Descriere: epa11865592 Discarded Christmas trees lie on the street in front of the Sparta Prague stadium in Prague, Czech Republic, 08 January 2025 (issued 31 January 2025). According to a Czech Christian tradition, the Christmas tree should be taken down on 06 January, on the Three Kings' Day, which marks the end of the Christmas season. Another tradition dating back to ancient pagan times says to keep the tree up until Hromnice, related to Groundhog Day, which falls on 02 February. The ancient Celts dedicated 02 February to the god Perun, from whose thunderous roar evil spirits fled and hid in the earth. Until the feast of Saint Perun, it was the tree that was supposed to protect people from the evil spirits. EPA/MARTIN DIVISEK ATTENTION: This Image is part of a PHOTO SET
