epa11648461 Election officials count votes for assembly (local) elections in Srinagar, Kashmir, India, 08 October 2024. The counting for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls is underway with the fate of 873 candidates contesting on 90 seats hanging in the balance. Any political party or an alliance requires to win 46 seats to win majority in the house. These were the first Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls held in 10 years and also the first since the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution that ended the semi-autonomous character of the region on August 5, 2019 and downgrading and division of the Jammu and Kashmir state into federally administered two union territories of J&K and Ladakh.
