Descriere: epa08954829 Banned opposition politician Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit speaks during a press conference after the Thai government filed a lawsuit against him accusing of defaming the monarchy, at the Progressive Movement headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, 21 January 2021. Media reports state that Thailand's Digital Economy and Society Ministry (DES) on 20 January 2021, filed a criminal lawsuit against banned opposition politician Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit accusing him of defaming the monarchy for criticizing a palace-owned company in a bid to produce the vaccine against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. After last year a court ordered a pro-democracy opposition party to dissolve, Thailand has seen a wave of anti-government protests led by students that stretched to criticism of the Thai King's wealth, political role and personal life. Thailand's royal defamation law, also known as lese majeste, punishes defamation from three to fifteen years in prison for each count. EPA/RUNGROJ YONGRIT
