On 02 September, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu held a news conference to announce that Taiwan will change its passport cover to prevent Taiwanese people from being mistaken as Chinese citizens while travelling abroad. The current Taiwan passport cover shows Taiwan's formal title Republic of China' in Chinese and English, the Republic of China's emblem, 'Taiwan' in English and 'Passport' in Chinese and English. The new cover changes English words of 'Republic of China' into small English words circling the emblem, and enlarges the English word 'Taiwan,' thus highlighting the words 'Taiwan' and 'Passport' in English.
