Descriere: epa08182250 A group of people with torches and costumes participates in the new year walk of the Purepecha ethnic group, in the state of Michoacan, Mexico, 31 January 2020. The Purepechas, the main ethnic group of Michoacan, every February 01 celebrate a new year, walking with the 'Abuelo Fuego' among the indigenous towns as an ancestral tradition that marks the beginning of a new year, which coincides with the agricultural cycle of the West Mexican. During the walk stops are made in various Purepecha communities with the purpose of strengthening the bonds of friendship and rescuing the values of their culture. The ceremony is dedicated to the god of fire Kurhikuaeri, the main deity of the Purepecha, to ask for abundance in the crops of the new cycle and permission for the fire to cook food that will give them energy and life.
