Given the name 'Mosi-oa-Tunya' - the smoke that thunders - because of the deafening sound it makes as it throws up water vapour into the air when the falls are running at normal water levels. Zimbabwe and Zambia are experiencing a drought that has resulted in incessant power cuts due to a reliance on hydroelectric power.
