Descriere: epa07988316 A man observes exhibition at museum of the Cold War nuclear weapons at the Brdy reserve near village of Misov, Czech Republic, 09 November 2019. The museum is placed in bunker with the former code name Javor 51 (Maple 51 in English) which was probably used by the Soviet Army as a top secret depot to store nuclear war heads during the Cold War. Iron Curtain Foundation opened the Atom museum in 2013. Only one of a total of twelve depots of this type built in former satellites of the Soviet Union was open. In addition to the three already known in Czechoslovakia, there were three in Poland, three in Bulgaria, two in East Germany and one in Hungary. The construction of these three bunker areas began in April 1966 and they were the most heavily guarded places in the former Czechoslovakia. The whole project Javor was strictly confidential. The Soviet army abandoned the buildings in 1990. To this day, the Czech Ministry of Defence has no evidence that nuclear war heads were indeed in the building. The Czech Republic marked the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution commemorating the events of 17 November 1989, when hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Prague and other cities across what was then still communist Czechoslovakia to demand political reforms and greater freedoms. After the brutal suppression of a student demonstration, the communist leadership soon crumbled and the playwright and human rights activist Vaclav Havel became president shortly thereafter.
