The number of China's online shoppers hit 610 million as of December 2018, up 14.4 percent year on year, as consumer demands continue to grow and the online consumption market further matures in China, according to the latest statistical report on Internet development.\r\n Chinese users shopping online accounted for 73.6 percent of China's total online population.\r\n Over 592 million people shopped via mobile phones, registering an increase of 17.1 percent compared with December 2017 and accounting for 72.5 percent of the total mobile phone Internet population, according to the report, released by China Internet Network Information Center.\r\n The increasing consumer demand for higher quality products and a broader selection of goods and services from sellers have injected new vitality into China's Internet-based shopping sector and further drove its growth in 2018, the report notes. Three major Chinese express delivery companies posted steady revenue growth last year on the back of booming e-commerce in the world's most populous country. \r\n SF Holding Wednesday announced that its revenues rose 27.6 percent year-on-year to 90.9 billion yuan (13.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018 thanks to fast growth in traditional and new businesses better catered to meet customer demands. \r\n Smaller rivals STO Express and Yunda Holding saw revenues up 34.4 percent and 38.5 percent to 17 billion yuan and 13.8 billion yuan, respectively, according to their preliminary financial results for 2018 filed to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. \r\n The steady rise came amid a stable growth in e-commerce, the major source of business for the express delivery industry, said Chen Zhaolin, an analyst with Southwest Securities. \r\n The industry is expected to handle 20 percent more parcels in each of the next two years, Chen said. The total value of goods carried by the logistics sector surged to 231.5 trillion yuan (about 33.3 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first 10 months, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing said in a statement Wednesday. \r\n The total amount was up 6.6 percent year on year. The growth rate, however, edged down 0.1 percentage points when compared with that for the first three quarters of the year. \r\n Logistics expenditure was 10.7 trillion yuan in the first 10 months, up 8.6 percent, which was 1.8 percentage points lower than a year earlier. \r\n The Logistics Performance Index (LPI) stood at 54.5 percent in October, up 1.4 percentage points from September, the federation said. A reading above 50 percent indicates expansion from the previous month, while a reading below indicates contraction. \r\n The sector's stable performance came amid steady growth of China's economy, which expanded 6.7 percent in the first three quarters of the year, above the government's annual growth target of around 6.5 percent.
