PERU AGRICULTURE PROTEST

PERU AGRICULTURE PROTEST

PERU AGRICULTURE PROTESTepa08858264 Protesters block the Panamericana Sur highway causing hundreds of vehicles to be stranded, at the height of the town of Pisco in the Ica region, Peru, 02 December 2020. Hundreds of farmers in the southern Peruvian region of Ica are demanding better working conditions and the end of a work regime for the agricultural export sector that they consider 'exploitative' due to the special conditions it allows. The peasant protest has surprised the country by the harsh stories of the affected farmers, laborers who work in the collection of precious products in the global market such as blueberries, asparagus or artichokes and by the altercations that have led to the blockade of the South Pan-American Highway, the main one in the country. Kenya continues to record high numbers of confirmed new COVID-19 cases on community transmission with fears that the infections will go high towards the festive seasons as people travel more upcountry. Kenyan President Kenyatta announced on 04 November 2020 the extension of a nationwide COVID-19 curfew from 10pm to 4am until 03 January 2021 and the ban of political rallies for 60 days as coronavirus infections surged.
