The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the education system in India, with scores of children from poor areas and remote regions across the country moving to online schooling or dropping out and vast majority comprising millions of children from underprivileged families - have been struggling to continue their education due to their limited access to technology. Makeshift schooling is playing an important role in this present time amid the Covid restriction and an effort to reach the underprivileged children. 'Panchsheel Shikshan Sansthan' (Panchsheel education organization) started in 2015 by the Satyendra Pal with five students and the school is situated at the Yamuna river bed at the resentment colony. Now there is 15 teaching staff who teach around 250 students of different classes. Kuldeep Maurya, who is now studying in 12th standard in a government school, is one of the teachers and also a former student of the same school. Most children cannot go to a proper school as they support their parents in nearby farm fields or are engaged in other jobs like ragpickers. Furthermore this school does not have class rooms, so they have to suspend the classes in extreme weather conditions and for electricity depended on solar lights. There is no proper funding to run the school and students and teachers contribute among themselves to bear the day to day expenses. The change to online schooling proved beneficial only for a limited number of children, mostly in towns, cities and urban areas but regional governments have tried to address the problem by donating devices and conducting lessons on television channels to some such schools.
