The extraordinary congress of the National Liberal Party (PNL) met on 10 April at the Parliament Palace to elect the new president, after Florin Citu, the leader of the PNL and the President of the Romanian Senate, resigned from the party leadership a week ago. Ciuca, the only candidate for the leader position, was elected as the party's new president, after receiving 1,060 votes in favor and 60 votes canceled.
